Care at a glance
Stylophora is a small-polyp stony coral with thick, blunt branches and fine polyps that give the surface a velvety look. It grows compactly and holds its shape well, which makes it a rewarding first SPS species.
It demands strong light and vigorous flow and above all stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium; swings in those show up immediately in the polyps. Put it in a mature tank, acclimate it gradually to your lighting and treat colour change as the first warning sign.
