Care at a glance
The saron shrimp is mottled green-brown with blue and red accents and carries tufts of hair-like outgrowths on its back; males have strikingly long front legs. By day it hides in a crevice; at night it emerges and even shifts colour slightly.
It is an opportunist: besides leftover food and algae it may go for soft corals, polyps and small invertebrates. In a well-stocked reef tank it is therefore a gamble; in a tank without sensitive corals it is a fascinating nocturnal resident.
