Care at a glance
Mato Grosso milfoil is the easy, legal replacement for the banned parrot feather: finely feathered, fresh green whorls of leaves around a long stem that quickly grows to the surface. The red cultivar turns copper-red under strong light.
Plant the stems in a group at the back, give medium to strong light and top them regularly; the tops root straight away. It takes up a lot of nutrients and thereby helps against algae in a newly started tank. Keep the flow moderate, because the fine leaves catch debris that then stays stuck between them.
