Care at a glance
The Malaysian trumpet snail lives largely below the substrate: by day you see at most the odd pointed shell, at night the whole population emerges. That burrowing is exactly its value — it keeps the substrate permeable and prevents anaerobic pockets where rot sets in.
In a tank with a deep sand bed it is therefore more of a tool than a guest. Numbers climb fast when too much food reaches the bottom, so the population is a good gauge of your feeding regime. It is livebearing and cannot simply be netted out like other snails; anyone who genuinely wants them gone ends up with assassin snails or a complete rescape.
