Care at a glance
Gracilaria, sold in the trade as ogo, is a red alga with branching, slightly translucent fronds in red, brown or purple. It is one of the best plant foods for tangs and other herbivores, which graze on it directly.
You can grow it in a refugium to take up nutrients and harvest it as live food at the same time. Give it light and vigorous flow so it does not clump, and wedge it between rocks if you do not want the fish to eat the lot in a single day.
