Frogspawn coral

Care at a glance

The frogspawn coral is the third of the classic euphyllia trio, alongside hammer and torch. Its tentacles end in little bulbs with branched tips, giving the whole thing the look of frogspawn — hence the name. In flow a large colony sways like a field.

As a euphyllia the same applies as with the hammer coral: keep distance from other corals, because the nocturnal sweeper tentacles reach far and burn anything they touch. Euphyllias among themselves usually get along. Stable alkalinity is decisive; swings show up immediately as poorly expanding polyps. A moderate, broad flow with no direct jet works best.
