Care at a glance
The firefish is a little jewel for the nano and reef aquarium: elegant in white and red, completely peaceful, with an upright dorsal ray it signals with constantly. It prefers to hover in the current above the rockwork, picking plankton from the water.
Its greatest enemy is the open-topped tank: when startled it shoots straight up, so a tight-fitting cover is genuinely essential. Give it a dedicated bolt-hole and it will dare to stay out in the open longer and longer. Multiple specimens only work as a bonded pair; otherwise keep a single fish.
