The acei is one of the more tolerant mbuna: rather than defending rock crevices it prefers to swim loose in open water, foraging for algae threads and plankton — exactly what its slim, elongated build hints at.
That milder temperament makes it better suited to a mixed Malawi tank than most of its relatives, though it remains a mbuna at heart: provide stacked rock as a retreat, hard alkaline water, and mostly vegetable food.
