Care at a glance

The whiptail catfish is an elongated, twig-like armoured catfish from South America with a thin, far-trailing tail filament. By day it lies motionless on wood or sand and its camouflage makes it hard to spot.

It grazes film algae and biofilm and additionally needs wood and vegetable supplements; a bare tank offers it too little. Provide fine sand so it does not damage its belly, keep the water clean and oxygen-rich, and house it with calm tankmates.
