Care at a glance
The flame scallop has a bright red mantle edge with long white tentacles and also shows a glowing line that runs along the shell margin like flickering lightning. That effect comes from light reflection, not from the animal producing light itself.
It depends entirely on fine suspended food and starves in most aquariums within a few months, despite its robust appearance. Only in a system with continuous plankton or filter feeding and without harsh lighting does it stand a real chance; place it in a shaded crevice with moderate flow.
