Emerald cory (brochis)

Care at a glance

The emerald cory, still often sold as brochis, is the big brother of the common corydoras: deeper-bodied, with a metallic green sheen and a longer dorsal fin. It grows to almost twice the size of most corys and therefore needs a somewhat roomier tank.

Keep it in a group of six on fine sand, which it sifts through with its snout all day; sharp gravel wears down the barbels. It is peaceful, takes sinking tablets and frozen food and fits almost any calm community tank. Do make sure enough food reaches the bottom, so it does not have to live on leftovers.
