The BlubHub app is here, for iOS and Android

From today you can download BlubHub on the App Store and on Google Play. The app is free, needs no account and keeps everything on your own device. Until now this site was mostly the species database; the app is the logbook that goes with it.

What you do with the app

BlubHub is a logbook for your aquarium, for saltwater and freshwater. You test your water values and enter them in a test session, with a timer per test. The app keeps the history per value and puts it in a chart with the band you want to stay in. That way you see nitrate or alkalinity drifting before it becomes a problem.

• Water values and trends. Nineteen parameters, from pH and alkalinity to calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate and salinity, with target bands you set per tank.
• Reminders. Water changes, testing, dosing, feeding and filter maintenance. You see what is due today, what is coming up and what is overdue, and the notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
• Inhabitants and equipment. Who is swimming around, with count and photos, from the same species database as on this site. Next to that an overview of filter, lighting, heater and pumps.
• Multiple tanks. Salt and fresh side by side, each with its own target values and its own tankmate matrix.

Everything stays on your device

The app works without an account and without an internet connection. Measurements, reminders, inhabitants and photos live in a local database on your phone or tablet. There are no ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics. What exactly happens with your data is in the privacy policy.

The link with ohhi.nl is optional and adds two things: a backup of your logbook in your own folder, and a page of your aquarium that you share with housemates. Without the link, nothing goes to a server.

What is still coming

This is version 1.0. The species database and the compatibility matrix on this site keep working on the web, also without the app, and keep growing. What later versions of the app add, we write up here on the blog. If you run into something, there is the support page. The app is available in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, the same six languages as this site.
